Everyday’s a Holiday

Hi everyone! So, February is almost over, and that means it’s time to move on to March, when the flowers are supposed to begin blooming and the birds are supposed to begin chirping. Well, this isn’t exactly true in the Northeast. This is when the snow begins to melt, and the ground is all muddy. Gross!

Overall, March can be a very gloomy month. The mud, the schoolwork, the lack of holidays. The only holiday that really takes place in March is Saint Patrick’s Day, but that’s mostly just fun for adults. So, I thought I would share some fun national days that could help spruce up March!

National I want you to be Happy Day (March 3rd)

This national day is simplistic in its foundation but deep in its meaning. All it is, is just giving others a little joy in their life. Donating to charity or even just complimenting a peer’s outfits can be the celebration. There really is a true glee that comes from making someone else happy, and this day is the perfect opportunity to put others before yourself and spread a little hint of joy!

“The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up.” – Mark Twain

National Pancake Day (March 12th)

Yum! Who doesn’t love pancakes? On National Pancake Day, which changes its date every year, the number one destination is IHOP (not IHOB). You might be wondering: what is so great about National Pancake Day? Can’t I have pancakes any day of the week? Well, on this day, IHOP gives out free pancakes to anyone who stops by, just encouraging its visitors to leave a donation to charity. I know I can’t wait for National Pancake Day!

“There was no time for chit-chat where there were chocolate chip pancakes to be eaten.” – Kristen Day

National Pi Day (March 14th)

Pi Day is one of the better known holidays on this list and really popular among math lovers like myself. Celebrating this holiday can be really fun! The puns are amazing as well as the pie–the dessert I mean. I think I might have some Chicken Pot Pie this year, followed by some Boston Cream for dessert!

National Awkward Moments Day (March 18th)

Aww, a holiday created specifically for me! Accidentally laughing out loud in a silent classroom. Bumping into someone in the middle of the crowded hallway. So many awkward moments take place each and every day–there are even hashtags. Why not take some time to forget about the embarrassment and celebrate them?

“My life is just a series of humiliating moments separated by snacks.”- Bill Murray

National Prom Day (March 31st)

Prom is a huge milestone for teenagers. Whether you are attending prom or not, you can still have a little fun for prom day! Going to try on prom dresses is always a super fun activity, and you can get really goofy with it, too! For those going to prom, you could try out different hairdos and makeup on this day to prepare yourself for this huge event!

“You can get married three or four times, but a prom is a once in a lifetime experience.”- Unknown

These are just a few of the national holidays to celebrate in March, but I hope you find one on this list that inspires you to have a good time! I know I’ll definitely enjoy celebrating these! Before I go, one last word of advice is that National Days are what you make of them: if you do nothing that’s fine, but they can be really fun if you take the time to even set up even a minimal celebration. Get creative with it and have fun!

Sincerely,
Nora

  2. Hello! I would like to first say that I was completely unaware there was a holiday for being awkward. I wish I knew about this holiday sooner so I could have celebrated it. Second I love your positivity and how you took the time to search for holidays that could be easily celebrated by almost anyone!
